Continuum 08: the Music & the Mixes

Continuum 08

Continuum 08 is a collection of remastered mashup singles and mixes that I had originally produced in 2008, plus a collection of mashup videos produced by myself and a few other producers. It commemorates my commitment to continuously trying to improve my production skills as well as my continuously growing interest in music mashup production (and now mashup video production as well).

I spent several months this year learning how to improve my audio extraction and mastering techniques, and what better way to do that than figure it out on pieces I've already completed. Thus, all the music in this collection has been remastered in 320 kbps audio.

My original intent was to have this project completed by April 2009, but a few personal situations delayed the project. My sincere apologies go to the other producers (BorisB, Guv'nor, and The Reborn Identity), who produced videos for this project back in February/March and had to wait until now to see them released. I thank them for their immense patience.

Continuum 08 is contained within 3 albums for your listening, viewing, and downloading pleasure:

  1. Continuum 08: the Music
  2. Continuum 08: the Mixes
  3. Continuum 08: the Videos

Consequently, there are 3 download packages - one for each album. Each album download package includes the music tracks (or video tracks), a digital booklet (in PDF, which can be added to your iTunes library), a paper CD case (in PDF, with printing and folding instructions), and some digital cover art.

As part of this release, all the cover art for each mashup single has been recreated in 3D and only included in the digital booklets contained within the download packages.

You can listen to and download the individual tracks using the Fairtilizer music players below. Or click on the album download links to download the music tracks with all the extra goodies. Note that the Videos album package is not listed below because it will be presented in a separate blog posting.

Continuum 08: the Videos

Continuum 08: the Videos is a collection of mashup videos produced by myself and a few other producers based on my mashup singles from 2008.

Besides uploading the videos to YouTube and Vimeo for people to watch, I've created 2 download packages. One package includes higher quality, higher bitrate videos. The second package includes videos that have been optimized for iPod, iTouch, and iPhone. The iPod versions can also be played on AppleTV or from the video output on iPod, iTouch, and iPhone.

Both video download packages include the video tracks, a digital booklet (in PDF, which can be added to your iTunes library), and a paper CD case (in PDF, with printing and folding instructions).

You can watch the individual videos using the YouTube or Vimeo video players below. Or click on the appropriate download link to download the videos with all the extra goodies.

A Little Piece for Halloween - Remaster + Video

A Little Piece About Death

Last year, I had produced a mashup song for Halloween, but only managed to release it the day before Halloween, so it didn't get much exposure. If you've never heard it, this mashup has a distinct Tim Burton movie style to it - a whimsical, slightly corny, high energy rock sound.

Now it's Halloween time again and I thought I'd promote the mashup once again for those of you who missed it. But I couldn't just offer you the exact same thing as last year, so there's a few little bonuses with this new 2009 release...

First, I've been working on some of my remastering skills, so I remastered this song a bit and offer it to you in 320kbps haunting stereo. Most of the audio was pretty good in the original release, so it basically received a little audio cleanup and a little more compression.

Second, for a little in-your-face Halloween fun, I created a 3D version of the album art (as shown above), so strap on your 3D glasses and bugger up your eyes & brain (click on the image above for a larger version). For best results, use the 3D glasses with the green and magenta (pink) lenses. I got mine from the 3D version of Coraline. You should also get some decent results with blue and red lenses.

And third, everyone's favourite producer, Guv'nor, produced a video to accompany this mashup. I hope you enjoy this healthy little Halloween treat - no sugar added!

BTW, there is a LANGUAGE WARNING - what's a good Halloween song without a li'l cursing?

Pumping Up the Video

It's been a long time (over 4 months actually) since I've posted anything here, which means it's been quite a while since I've released any music production material. And I've been very quiet on the mashup/remix forums, too.

That's because, since January this year, I've been quite busy working on a project geared towards improving some of my production skills. But I didn't want to be the only one having fun with this project. I also invited a few producers to join in the fun. Boris, DJ Dylan, Guv'nor, and Reborn Identity are contributing some interesting videos to accompany this project.

In the middle of that project (in April), I got caught up in a creative contest that sucked my spare time dry until June, so my project was basically in a holding state throughout that contest. Although I didn't win a prize, it presented some interesting production opportunities with other producers/musicians that I hope I'll be able to show in 4-6 months from now.

When I started working on my project again in June, I decided it was also time to start having some fun with video mashup production. I decided that I'd tackle 2 videos for this project of mine. As it turns out, a few weeks ago an unfinished version of one of those videos was leaked out. Instead of fighting it, I thought I'd get the video completed and release it as a bit of a prelude to the release of the full project.

I present, from the upcoming release, Continuum 08, the video for Thinking About Pumping Up the Volume...

It's also available on vimeo.

For those of you who are curious, I've uploaded the unfinished version of the video that had been leaked out a few weeks ago. You, too, can enjoy seeing some of story boarding ideas embedded in the unfinished video, and compare that with the final production. You can find the unfinished video version here .

Since this is my first video production, and I'm about to start the production of my second video for my Continuum 08 project, I welcome any comments or feedback about this video mashup production so I have some skills/issues to work on in my upcoming video productions.

The Winding Road 2 Cubism

2009 Nissan Cube KromI have a chance to win a brand new Nissan cube®. Nissan Canada is giving away 50 of them, and hundreds (maybe thousands) of everyday people will need to compete for them.

There's a tall order to win, and I'll need to jump through some techno-social hoops to have a chance at winning.

So please follow me on my long and winding Road 2 Cubism. It's a dedicated blog so people can follow me and leave their own additional comments and experiences.

UPDATE:
Preview and download now available here...

You won't find a play button or download link here for this mashup track because L'Éternel Enfant Roi (aka: The Eternal Child King) was included as an exclusive mashup track in the Ramdom Thoughts podcast show #138 released this weekend.

It's a pre-release track to the upcoming compilation mashup album, Beautiful Boots, which is planned for release at the end of March. The release of this compilation is being coordinated by DJ Useo, and you'll find the release at Groovy Time With DJ Useo when it's ready.

So if you want to hear this track for a sneak peek at Beautiful Boots, head over to Ramdom Thoughts to download podcast show #138 or subscribe to it through iTunes. Otherwise, you'll have to wait until Beautiful Boots is released.
